If you or a family member suddenly faced a difficult legal situation, what would you do? Do you even know where you would start?
Let's look at a real-world example, something that happens every day: you are involved in a traffic accident. It's not clear who is at fault. There are questions as to who did what and who is responsible for the damage and injuries.
It's obvious you need an attorney in such a situation. But the thought of finding and hiring a lawyer "right now" can be head-spinning! Who should I call? How do I know the attorney is qualified? And perhaps most importantly, how many thousands of dollars will all of this cost?
Being caught in this kind of predicament is frustrating and nerve-wracking because you are unprepared. So get prepared! For very little money!
Don't wait until a legal problem arises! Don't get stuck paying thousands of dollars to an attorney you pick randomly from the phone book! Instead, put an attorney 'on retainer' and protect your family from problems like this FOR JUST $89.95 PER YEAR -- as a member of The Family Attorney Plan from Standard Legal and Hyatt Legal Plans!
SO WHO ARE THE ATTORNEYS AVAILABLE THROUGH THIS PLAN?
This is not an unknown, faceless, “online” attorney group managed by some start-up company.
Hyatt Legal Plans is a MetLife® Company. Hyatt maintains a network of over 11,700 fully licensed attorneys with offices in all 50 states and USA territories.
The lawyers who provide services to the members of the network are highly-qualified; they typically have over 25 years of experience in their practice and a wide array of legal expertise.
These attorneys have established offices in your local area, so you have the choice -- and it's your choice! -- of meeting face-to-face or by telephone whenever you need legal assistance.
Hyatt ensures that only quality attorneys work in the network through careful initial selection, ongoing training, close supervision, regular communication, and the frequent gathering of client feedback. The plan attorneys are monitored and evaluated by an entire department of Panel Representatives managed directly by Hyatt's General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel.
In a recent survey, 95.5% of Hyatt's plan members rated their experience with the attorney network as “satisfied” or “very satisfied.”
Simply put, these are excellent attorneys managed by a nationally-recognized company who will go to work for you whenever you have a legal need -- all for just $89.95 per year!
SO ANYONE IN MY FAMILY CAN TALK TO AN ATTORNEY ONCE I JOIN?
Your membership in The Family Attorney Plan covers legal services for you, your spouse and any unmarried children under 21 years old for the full list of covered legal issues.
EXACTLY WHAT LEGAL ISSUES ARE COVERED?
The traffic accident example above is just one of the many legal issues covered under The Family Attorney Plan. There are MANY common personal legal topics covered under this plan! Those legal issues and some very specific EXAMPLES of each category are:
Administrative Hearing Representation
EXAMPLE: Your child gets suspended from school for something he didn't do. The attorney will represent you at the hearing.
Restoration of Driving Privileges
EXAMPLE: You have lost your driving privileges because of too many tickets. The attorney will help you in getting your driving privileges back.
Boundary or Title Disputes (Primary Residence)
EXAMPLE: Your neighbor installed a fence on your property and you want to take action to have it removed. The attorney will handle negotiations and litigation.
Civil Litigation Defense
EXAMPLE: Your golf ball hit another golfer and now you are being sued for medical and emotional damages. The attorney will represent you in the civil proceedings.
Consumer Protection Matters
EXAMPLE: You bought a car that is a “lemon” and need an attorney to enforce the lemon laws in your state.
EXAMPLE: You just had your car repaired and the repair is faulty. The attorney will represent you to get it fixed right.
Identity Theft Defense
EXAMPLE: You start getting calls from creditors that say you owe them for purchases that you never made. The attorney will help stop the creditor harassment, defend you in court over the disputed bills, and help repair your credit report.
Eviction and Tenant Problems (Primary Residence, Tenant Only)
EXAMPLE: You have moved but are having problems getting your security deposit back from your former landlord. The attorney will write letters on your behalf to get your deposit back.
EXAMPLE: Your landlord is threatening to evict you because you have a dog that barks too loudly. The attorney will represent you in any eviction proceeding.
Juvenile Court Defense
EXAMPLE: Your child was arrested for trespassing in a construction area and must appear in juvenile court. The attorney will represent your child in court.
Misdemeanor Defense
EXAMPLE: You had a party and were cited for disturbing the peace. The attorney will represent you in court to defend against the charge.
Name Change
EXAMPLE: You have adopted a child and want to change the child's last name to that of the rest of the family unit. The attorney will handle all the necessary pleadings and court hearings.
Prenuptial Agreement
EXAMPLE: You're getting married and have significant assets that you want to shelter. The attorney will prepare and explain the necessary documents.
Property Tax Assessment (Primary Residence)
EXAMPLE: You believe your property is valued to high for tax purposes. Your attorney will represent you at the hearing and file all necessary paperwork on your behalf.
Protection from Domestic Violence
EXAMPLE: You are a victim of domestic violence. Your attorney will help you to obtain a protective order, including all required paperwork and attendance at all court hearings.
Refinancing of Home (Primary Residence)
EXAMPLE: Individuals refinance their home by paying off their current mortgage and take out a new loan on the property. The attorney will review and prepare all relevant documents.
Sale or Purchase of Home (Primary Residence)
EXAMPLE: This is the largest financial transaction of most peoples' lives. The bank's lawyer is looking out for the bank. The realtor wants the deal to close. Who's looking out for your financial interest?
EXAMPLE: Your attorney will review and prepare all documents (mortgage, deed, title, insurance, taxes and purchase agreement) for the purchase or sale of your primary residence. The attorney will also appear with the member at the formal closing where applicable by state laws.
Small Claims Assistance
EXAMPLE: You loaned a few hundred dollars to your former “best” friend who does not want to repay the loan. The attorney will counsel you in how to prosecute the case.
Traffic Ticket Defense (No DUI)
EXAMPLE: You were given a speeding ticket and want to contest the ticket before the judge. The attorney will represent you in court.
IMPORTANT NOTE: While a significant number of legal issues are covered under The Family Attorney Plan, any legal topic not included specifically in the list above is not covered under the Plan. Thus, the creation of estate planning documents, the filing of divorce or bankruptcy, or the resolution of business issues are NOT covered. Instead, the Family Attorney Plan is set up to cover all of the personal legal situations that are detailed in list above, all at a very affordable yearly price, with high-quality attorney representation nationwide.
HOW CAN THIS PLAN COST SO LITTLE BUT COVER SO MUCH?
Great question, because the amount of legal protection offered for the dollar does seem hard to believe! But there is a real-world reason why the yearly price is so affordable, even though so many legal issues are covered by the plan.
Hyatt provides group legal plans to a number of large companies as a part of the benefits provided to the company employees. That means Hyatt has thousands of people covered under its plans, giving it the financial means to create and maintain a highly qualified network of plan attorneys.
Now, not every person who is covered by these legal plans has a situation arise that requires help from an attorney in a given year (just like many people with health insurance don't all need to see a doctor every year). So the yearly cost per person for the many legal services offered stays very reasonable, yet is always available to anyone in the plan whenever it is needed!
IS THERE ANY 'FINE PRINT' TO THE FAMILY ATTORNEY PLAN?
The details of this plan are listed in plain English on this page.
There are no gimmicks or fine print involved in purchasing or using the services of the attorney network: no deductibles, no waiting periods, no co-payments, no claims forms.
There are no limits on the number of times an active member can call upon the attorney network to receive help for covered legal issues.
A network attorney will work with you to resolve the problem at hand. The attorney will meet with you either face-to-face or over the phone -- your choice.
During your consultation, if an issue arises that is not covered by the plan and additional legal fees are required to cover that service, the attorney will discuss those additional charges with you immediately and will obtain your express approval before continuing on. That way, you decide how -- or if -- you wish to proceed!
The Family Attorney Plan has been created with families in mind: clear coverage that provides professional legal services for the type of common issues a family often faces, handled with no drama and no nonsense!
WHAT LEGAL ISSUES ARE EXCLUDED?
No service (including consultations) will be provided for:
- employment-related matters, including company or statutory benefits;
- matters in which there is a conflict of interest between the member and spouse or dependents (in which case the services are excluded for the spouse and dependents);
- appeals and class actions;
- farm and business matters, including rental issues when the member is the landlord;
- patent, trademark and copyright matters;
- court costs and/or fines;
- frivolous or unethical matters;
- matters for which an attorney-client relationship exists prior to the member becoming eligible for plan benefits;
- matters not stated specifically in the list of covered legal services;
- matters involving Standard Legal, MetLife® and its affiliates, and/or any of the plan attorneys.
For all other stated personal legal matters, the advice and consultation benefit is provided. If you have questions regarding any of the covered services, feel free to call Hyatt toll free at 1-800-821-6400 to discuss in detail.
WHY BUY THIS PLAN FROM STANDARD LEGAL?
While Hyatt already offers legal plans to many people throughout the country, typically those plans are provided through company benefits packages -- so enrollment in those plans is limited to people who work for those select companies.
But Standard Legal's plan that is open to anyone living in an eligible state who wishes to join! [See the list of eligible states at the bottom of this page.]
When Standard Legal began working with Hyatt to create The Family Attorney Plan, we knew we wanted an open program that focused on the legal needs of a typical family, priced at an amount that a typical family easily can afford. We believe we have accomplished that goal!
