Why Do the No-Fault Divorce Documents Say “Dissolution” on Them?

In a number of states, a No-Fault Divorce proceeding is referred to as a “dissolution”. As such, if you wish to utilize the Standard Legal No-Fault Divorce legal forms software, the documents that will be filed with the court are captioned “Petition for Dissolution.”

A divorce action that is NOT a no-fault proceeding (i.e. a divorce based on “fault” of one of the parties) is initiated by filing a “Complaint for Divorce.”

Standard Legal’s web site clearly indicates that the legal forms software we sell are for No-Fault Divorce actions only. As such, the documents that are provided within the software package are correctly captioned “Petition for Dissolution.”
