Standard Legal’s PDF Format

Two basic requirements must be followed to use the PDF format from Standard Legal.

USE REQUIREMENTS

REQUIREMENT #1: to open and use any Standard Legal PDF, you must have either the FREE Adobe Reader or the commercially available Adobe Acrobat installed on your device. We strongly recommend using the most up-to-date version of the Reader or Acrobat software, as older versions may not be fully featured.

REQUIREMENT #2: users must open a Standard Legal PDF inside the Reader program only, and NOT INSIDE A WEB BROWSWER window. It is critical that you download any files to your hard drive first, unzip them, then access them using Reader. If Reader does not launch independently as a program when double-clicking a PDF file, that usually means your system is not set up with Reader as the default PDF program. So you can either set up your system to tie Reader to a PDF file when opened, or you must launch Reader first then choose Open from the main menu then navigate to the Standard Legal file to open it.

Use requirements summary: DO NOT USE ANY OTHER TYPE OF PDF PROGRAM BESIDES READER OR ACROBAT. DO NOT OPEN AND WORK ON ANY PDF FILE FROM WITHIN A WEB BROWSER. Failure to follow these two critical instructions will cause an error upon saving or printing the document.

TWO PDF FORMATS

Standard Legal offers two versions of its PDF forms:

– the v5 PDF forms are fill-in-the-blank setups with tab-to-next-field navigation.

– the v6 formats use a question-and-answer process that produce completed documents at the end of the questionnaire.

Both formats allow the documents to be saved partially-completed. The form field answers are retained within the saved document, meaning users can start work on a form, save it, and then come back to it at a later time without losing any work that has been completed.

HELP PROMPTS

Our PDF forms provide “help” prompts in a very clear way in both formats. Nearly every form field in a PDF has a corresponding icon that provides written guidance as to the wording or information that is to be entered into that specific form field. (Some of the form fields do not have an icon attached to them, as the information on these lines is either automatically filled in for you or is so obvious as to not require explanation.)

To use the icon form field prompts, follow these directions:

Hold the cursor over the icon and the instructional information will appear for your review. (Or click the icon to keep the instructions box open while moving the cursor away to complete the field, and then click the icon in the corner of the box to close it when you are done.) Provide the requested information where required per the instructions and tab to the next field until the form is completed.

BASELINE CONTENT

IMPORTANT: the baseline content of the PDF forms is not editable. Only the fields themselves may be customized, added to or edited. The baseline content is specific to the life status / stated purpose of that form and the state for which it is to be used. If the baseline content does not meet your needs, review the other PDF forms available within the title to determine if there is a content setup that better matches.
