The Word format is the primary format for v5 long form contractual documents, where multiple paragraphs and pages are presented in written format.
Standard Legal’s PDF Format
Two basic requirements must be followed to use the PDF format from Standard Legal.
How to Set a Default Program for PDF or Word Files
If you double-click a Standard Legal PDF or Word file and the Adobe Reader or Word program you want to use doesn’t launch, you need to change the settings on your device.
PROBLEM: PDF ‘Question Marks’ Print on Form
Some users of the PDF legal forms have printer default setups that leave the “question mark prompts” that provide instructions for individual form fields to print on their forms. Let’s fix that.
PROBLEM: Printer Cuts Off the Form
The print margins on Standard Legal’s forms are very small. Usually, if a printed form page is cut off, the issue can be corrected in the print dialogue box.
How Do I Change the Baseline Content of a Form?
The Microsoft Word and PDF versions of the legal documents are set up so that the only required content changes are done so in the “fill-in-the-blank” boxes. This recommended use ensures that the legal context is correct as written by our attorneys, while still allowing the user to add in custom information as necessary.
To add custom content to these form field boxes, simply insert your cursor into the box and type your answer. Then use the Tab key to move to the next box.
A change can be made to the baseline content of a form, but we DO NOT RECOMMEND this. The following describes how to access that baseline content.
PROBLEM: I Can’t Enter an Answer into Any Microsoft Word Form Field
The “lock” for this Microsoft Word form may be undone.
PROBLEM: Microsoft Word Won’t Open a Form
A computer’s settings dictate what program will be used to open a particular file type. Most often, .doc files or .dot files (document template) will automatically open in Microsoft Word.
PROBLEM: I Can’t Fit My Answer in the Form Field
Field length is something given great consideration when each form is created. So there should be no sentence that is too long for any field in one of our PDF forms.
PROBLEM: I Can’t Fill In the Fields On a PDF Form
Typically, if a user can’t enter or save answers into a Standard Legal PDF, it’s either because they have opened the PDF within a web browser or because they are using a PDF viewer that is not Adobe Reader.
